Airport personnel, such as baggage
handlers and the ground crew should also wear nighttime safety vests so
airplane pilots can easily see them. Railway workers, survey crews,
forestry workers, delivery vehicle drivers, school crossing guards, and
trash collectors should also all wear a nighttime safety vest of at
least a class 2 ANSI ranking.
Accident site investigators, emergency response personnel, law
enforcement personnel, and railroad inspection and maintenance crews
should also wear a class 2 ANSI nighttime safety vests, though many
people in these occupations should also consider wearing a class 3 ANSI
nighttime safety vest.
People in these occupations, as well as roadway construction personnel,
roadway flaggers, and survey crews often find themselves in the middle
of roads during traffic situations. For this reason, it is highly
important that these people be visible to drivers.
Recreation
Nighttime safety vests should also be worn during a wide variety of
recreational activities. Many people enjoy engaging in recreational
activities during the evening hours or in the early morning. At these
times of the day, weather is generally cooler and more pleasant. In
addition, these activities often take place during these times as people
attempt to work their recreational activities in around their busy work
schedules.
People who enjoy running, walking and bicycling, for example should wear
a nighttime safety vest when exercising. People who run, walk, and bike
along the side of a street are at risk of being hit and injured by a
car. Wearing a nighttime safety vest helps improve the chances of a
driver seeing, and avoiding, the person who is running, walking, or
bicycling.
Many people also enjoy fishing our hunting in the early morning or at
dusk. For these people, wearing a nighttime safety vest is essential for
safety. In the case of hunters, the vest helps prevent the hunter from
being accidentally shot by a fellow hunter.
